Awesome Ian, looks like 1/35! What weathering techniques did you use?

Cheers

Thanks Ralf
I have been following some techniques from the 'Chipping' edition of the weathering magazine from Mig Productions. Basically it involves priming the the model in the correct colour undercoat then painting on some 'Scratches effect' fluid (another Mig product) and then when that is dry, painting over with the colour you want but when that coat is touch dry you use a wet (with water) paint brush to gently rub of the top coat. The scratches fluid stops the top coat from sticking properly and creates random scratched and worn effects. The top coat will properly dry after 48 hours so the effect is only possibly during a short time window. It is very simple to apply and as this was my first time I was very impressed with the effect it created and will use again when needed.
This sort of effect has been produced in the past by using hairspray or even salt to achieve the damaged paint look but on 1/87 models I always thought it never worked very well (for me anyway) so finding a quick and easy option like this fluid is great for us small scale modellers.
The rest of the model was modified to look worn by chipping the zimmerit and painting it an ochre colour and using 'streaking grime' and 'engine grime' washes to make it look dirty and battle tired.

Here is my take on the Artmaster M18 Hellcat.

Hello Ian,

you made a really god job but Artitec delivered very bad tracks with the kit!

best regards
Heinz

Hello Ian,

the Matilda kit seems to be a copy of the (exceptionally) excellent EKO Polystyrene model, but a really bad one!
Well, I'm glad having a lot of these EKO models stockpiled!

Best regards
Heinz

Hi Heinz
I would disagree with you on the quality of the Alsacast Matilda, my version has been over weathered and so probably hides a lot of its details. It is a very well cast resin kit with no defects and very little flash and at its price it cannot really be bettered in my opinion.

Especially since it was Artmaster respectively CMK... Heinz, Heinz, Heinz.

It is actually a copy of the Artitec/Trident kit, which is the best Matilda II available and a lot better than the EKO model. While the latter is quite nice for EKO, it does have its share of problems.

@ Ian: your last batches have been very impressive again, thanks for sharing. If that Matilda is supposed to be a BEF example, you might want to backdate it to a Mk I with the Vickers coax MG and just one exhaust pipe.

Cheers,

Jens O.

Thanks Jens but I can get away with the Mark II as a BEF tank as there were 23 used by them (apparently - if you can trust what you read on the Internet :D )
